Beti Bachao Andolan (Save Girl Child)

Environment and Social Development Association (ESDA) have started a Beti Bachao Andolan (A Movement for Save Female Child) including “Mission to Stop Dowry System” from September 2, 2005 with aim to aware the general public regarding ‘harmful effects of dowry system in the society’, ‘importance of girl child to sustain the society’, ‘stop female feticide’, ‘stop dowry system’, ‘educate the girls’ and ‘finish inequality between boy and girl, etc. ESDA was also running a Movement against Dowry System or Dahej since 2003. Founder of ESDA Mr. Jitendra K Nagar did his marriage under this movement and he did his marriage without dowry or any gift item or money from his in-laws and without waste expanses in Band-Baja-Barat with presence of his personal relatives & friends i.e. about 25-30 persons. This was an ideal marriage in the area of Delhi-NCR and youth was motivated by this act. Media and social organization also taken initiatives in this regards and more than thousands of marriages have been completed till now.

ESDA appointed to Dr. Jitendra K Nagar (General Secretary, Environment and Social Development Association) as a Convener of this movement to supervise the all activities regarding above campaign. ESDA have organized more than hundreds of meetings, seminars, workshops, debates, dramas, Nukkar-Natak, March-pass, essay and drawing competition, wall-painting, distribution of pamphlets, handbills and others literatures in the above context. The main target group of this movement is youth because youth have ability to change the system.
