Environment and Social Development Association (ESDA)’ India was organized the ‘Global Water Congress 2020’ on a virtual platform to pay our tributes to the ‘Father of the Indian Nation Mahatma Gandhi Ji on his ‘151st Birth Anniversary on ‘2nd - 4th October 2020 and co-organized by Grass Roots Research and Creation (GRC India), Noida in collaboration with CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Climate Action Network International (South Asia Chapter), Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi, Amity University Gurugram, GD Goenka University Gurugram, Indian Water Works Association Mumbai, CPCB Alumni Association Delhi and MSMECCII Delhi. This event is part of ESDA Campaign ‘ “Jal Kranti Mission” – Water Conservation by public participation.

About ‘950 delegates including the academicians, scientists, medical doctors, policymakers, technocrats, stakeholders, research scholars, environmentalists, educationists, journalists, social activists, civil societies, industrial representatives and students across the World were participated in this congress. The Congress was organized successfully as a landmark under the leadership of the Organizing Secretary ‘Dr. Jitendra K Nagar, General Secretary, Environment and Social Development Association (ESDA) Delhi. The conference attracted participants from more than 18 Sates of India and 7 foreign countries with ‘755 registered delegates, 100 volunteers, 60 faculties & speakers. This international event has the objective of creating a forum for academics, researchers, environmentalists, social activists and civil societies belonging to different areas to share relevant knowledge and their work experiences regarding water conservation.

There were ‘10 technical sessions in which 5 invited lecture, 1 panel discussion, 3 Oral presentation & 1 poster presentation on different themes on water conservation and its management. Total of ‘255 abstracts were received during this conference, out of which only 195 abstracts were selected for oral and poster presentation and 60 abstracts was rejected. Various National e-Competition activities like ‘Essay Writing, Slogan Writing, Poster Drawing and Innovative Ideas were organized along with expert panel of judges. There were ‘238 drawing posters, 176 Essays, 215 Slogans and 108 innovative ideas entries received. There were ‘three best awardees declared in each activity.

The congress provided a highly interdisciplinary forum for sharing recent advances and discussed current challenges of water sustainability offering the desire towards maintenance for a Healthy Planet. Considering the importance of water security for a nation like ours and the impact quality of water has on human health and national prosperity, it is considered utmost important to pay an urgent attention to pooling together the brains of the inspired minds of scientists and technologists around the globe to tackle the global mega challenge of water security and work towards achieving the sustainable goals of good quality potable water for the citizens of all nations, including our own country India, the Bharat of our dream.
